Student Monologues for Classroom Study: Holidays, Celebrations, Days of Remembrance

edited by Lindsay Price

Student Monologues for Classroom Study: Holidays, Celebrations, Days of Remembrance is an incredible collection of 28 monologues for students, by students, inspired by a specific theme.

This resource also provides close reading questions, staging suggestions, and character development questions for every monologue. Plus, there are five lesson plans for you to use in conjunction with the monologues.

The monologue is an excellent theatrical assignment for classroom study. You can read and analyze, you can perform, you can have students direct each other.

We asked students to share their perspective on a holiday or day of remembrance. Some used this opportunity to write about how a specific day connects to their identity; others wrote wonderful comedic pieces to highlight a holiday that doesn’t get a lot of attention. Students wrote about National Coming Out Day, World Autism Awareness Day, Diwali, World Suicide Prevention Day, Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years, and more.
