Tips from the Author

Groups who have performed this show have told us that the backwards/forwards sequence with Kevin and Principal Vale is much more challenging than it looks on paper.

Give yourself lots of time to stage and rehearse this section. Cast your strongest physical comedians in those roles. They need to work as a tight-knit team to give maximum impact to the scene. The more you practice the more visually stunning this segment will be!

Tips from past Producers

We traveled 3 hours away and were performing for fun (not a competition), so we didn't travel with a set. We only used 7 chairs and a few props. This play lends itself well to imaginative blocking and the huge characters don't need to be overwhelmed by an elaborate set. We performed at the VA Thespian Festival at Shenandoah University on a thrust stage. The audience participation worked nicely in this environment and allowed our Emcee to move around and interact with the entire audience.
Do not be afraid to be creative and to allow class input. This play was completely produced by students.
Casting this play with the actors that are willing to put themselves out there is crucial!
